This project is about black male friendships {groups}. It researches the different kinds of connections these men can have with each other through clothing {uniforms} and physicality. {the way they move around and with each other} The research has manifested Itself through garments, directed images and an installation.
It finds elegance in togetherness and rough masculinity.
Artist statement
My name is Georbella Fini.
I am a 23 year old BA Fashion & Design graduate and creative based between the Netherlands and London. During my course I have focused on Fashion Design and Art Direction as tools to tell the stories that resonate with me. I'm most inspirerd by myself and personal growth and the people around me that helped shaped me to who I am today.
If you look at my work you can see I have a strong eye for color, I'm drawn to telling my story or ones that I can relate to and I'm curious about shapes and details to amplify the story.I value my knowledge of fabrics and patterns as much as I value my knowledge of culture/ art. I have an eye for quality and detail, but I also see fashion as a form of art and expressing myself. Over the past year I also have been developing myself in creative business strategy and marketing
I'm a Black/ Togolese creative born and raised in the Netherlands by my typical West-African parents. I grew up in a small town with not a lot of other black people around. This heavily influenced me into the person that I am today and will continue to grow as.
One of the recurring questions throughout all my projects is who was I? Who am I? Who will I be ? Because of these questions I am certain I will never be uninspired as long as I live and grow.
I'm a black woman who is vocal of injustice but also actively works on demanding equity and amplifying the voice of Africa and the diaspora in the past I have done this by being active in a black art student union. Where I was heavily involved in the programming and production of lectures and student work feedback sessions.
Ambitions
In the next 5 years I want to set the foundation of establishing myself as a freelance creative and artist. I want to be doing art direction anddesign work for a menswear brand. In 2 years time I will be graduating from my MA strategic Fashion Marketing at London College Of Fashion. This will give me the knowledge, skills and experience for something I'm really passionate about wich is to be a marketing consultant for emerging african luxury fashion brands. This will be an addition to me as a multidisciplinair creative.
