I’m developing the visual identity for a game called Rhythm City Radio. It’s a concept for a rhythm game, inspired by Dreamcast games like Space Channel 5 and Jet Set Radio.
It’s about a fictional 90’s city, where different gangs fight for control through campy musical battles.
To establish a distinct look and feel for this concept I’m making character designs, concept art, environment art, animations, and graphic design.

Artist statement

I am a 2D artist focussing on character design, concept art, pixel art, animation and illustration.
In my work I try to convey strong and recognisable aesthetics, unique references and a sense of queerness.

I am good at showing my own personality through my work, which makes it instantly recognisable.

I’m inspired by retro games from the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but also recent games like Undertale, Bayonetta and Splatoon, as well as shows like Steven Universe, Medabots and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

All of my inspirations and interests combined with a constantly evolving style and vision makes me a unique and recognisable artist with a versatile set of skills.

Ambitions

In 5 years I would like to be working at a game studio, run my own studio or work as a freelance artist. I would love to have a position that let me make important artistic decisions that influence the look of the game. Being able to financially support myself on art alone is the main goal though.

Learned during the studies

The most important thing I’ve learned in my 4 years of studying at HKU is that I’m a better artist than I thought I was and that I have more skills than I thought I had. I’ve directed my own game demo called OverNight, for which I did writing, pixel art, concept art, animation and game design, showing that I’m more than just a 2D artist.
